At the United Nations Office at Geneva, a four-year panel discussion on "Promoting Human Rights through Sports and the Olympic Spirit" began on July 1st (Geneva time). Xu Mengyuan, from the Shaanxi Patriotic Volunteer Association in China and also a student of Xi'an Jiaotong University, delivered a wonderful speech at the conference, elaborating on the positive role of sports and the Olympic spirit in promoting human rights.

Xu Mengyuan pointed out in his speech that the principles of fairness, impartiality, and non discrimination embodied in sports and the Olympic spirit are closely linked to human rights values. She emphasized that for young people, sports provide a platform for fair participation, which can promote personal development, enhance health, promote gender equality, improve the well-being of people with disabilities, eliminate discrimination, expand social inclusiveness, and even prevent conflicts.

Meanwhile, Xu Mengyuan candidly mentioned that sports events are not always perfect and can sometimes become venues for human rights violations. Therefore, she calls for the deep integration of human rights thinking into the operation of sports organizations and events, ensuring that the principles of fairness, justice, and inclusiveness are effectively implemented.

She further stated that the international community should attach great importance to the positive role of sports, strengthen cooperation, and promote the popularization and development of sports. Xumeng Yuan calls on all countries to work closely with the International Olympic Committee to promote peace, development, and the protection of human rights through sports as a platform.

When it comes to the regulation of sports organizations and events, Xu Mengyuan emphasized that these organizations and events must comply with international human rights law and ethical norms, creating a safe and fair playing environment for athletes and spectators.

Finally, Xu Mengyuan concluded that "sports are not only competition, but also an important force for promoting social progress and global human rights protection." Her speech won widespread agreement and warm applause from the attendees present.

This speech not only demonstrates the profound understanding of the relationship between sports and human rights among Chinese youth, but also reflects China's determination and actions to actively participate and contribute wisdom and strength in international affairs.
