The 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council was held in Geneva from September 9 to October 11. Xu Mengyuan, a representative from the Shaanxi Patriotic Volunteer Association and a student from Xi'an Jiaotong University, delivered a speech at the 13th meeting during the "Interactive Dialogue with Experts on Promoting a Democratic and Equitable International Order" on September 17.
In her speech, Xu Mengyuan emphasized that while we love our own country, we cannot sacrifice the interests of other countries; patriotism should be a manifestation of respect for international law and norms. She pointed out that in today's increasingly globalized world, it is particularly important to establish a fair and democratic international order, which must be built on broad international consensus.
Since its inception, the "International Patriotic Pact Initiative" has attracted the participation and support of 123 non-governmental organizations from 40 countries. The core concept of the pact is that patriotic behavior should not infringe upon the rights and interests of other countries, and while developing itself, a country should also take into account the common interests of the international community.
Xu Mengyuan elaborated on the three core tasks of the "International Patriotic Pact Organization": first, to strengthen compliance with international law and ensure that the behavior of countries is legal and compliant; second, to promote international exchange and cooperation, enhancing understanding and trust among countries; and third, to actively participate in global governance and strive to build a just and reasonable international order. In addition, she specifically mentioned the review of the right to development of countries and the exposure and criticism of the hegemonic behavior of powerful countries.
During the meeting agenda, Xu Mengyuan expressed her expectation to discuss with experts and representatives on how to practice this concept and promote the development of global democracy and equity. She called on the international community to work together to contribute to the creation of a harmonious and prosperous new international order.
The dialogue brought together representatives from countries around the world, multiple human rights experts, and non-governmental organization representatives, including Mr. Febrian Ruddyard, Vice-President of the Human Rights Council, Ms. Anush Gharabaghtsyan from Armenia, Mr. Heangly Thong from Cambodia, Ms. Yvonne Murugi Kivuti from Kenya, Ms. Khawla Yussef from the Syrian Arab Republic, Mr. Dimitrios Selinis from Greece, Mr. Tmanawoe Tazo from Togo, Mr. Gustavo Gallón from Colombia, Mr. Abdoualem Tessema from Ethiopia, Mr. Natnael Yebio from Eritrea, Ms. Maeva Magmui from Vanuatu, and Professor Yi Bo from the School of Law, Southeast University. Their participation provided diverse perspectives and rich discussion content for the meeting.
Finally, on behalf of the "International Patriotic Pact Organization - Shaanxi Patriotic Volunteer Association", Xu Mengyuan expressed gratitude to all participants and hoped that this initiative could receive wider dissemination and support. This meeting not only showcased the positive image of the Shaanxi Patriotic Volunteer Association on the international stage but also provided new ideas and directions for promoting a democratic and equitable international order globally. In the future, the association will continue to work towards this goal and contribute to building a more harmonious and prosperous international community. (By: Li Shihui)
